Calling all Event Designers - this is the latest must have tool and the coolest App for the iPhone & iPod touch. Wherever you are you can now have access to a variety of Pantone colour libraries and have the ability to build colour pallettes and share them with colleagues or clients. There are many great things about this App including the Matching System which allows you to take a picture with your iPhone and match it to the closest Pantone colour.

Imagine being able to capture colours on the run. You might be at a venue and they have an unusual carpet colouring or wall covering and you want to be able to match it to the table centre pieces - take a picture with your iPhone and it will allow you to extract a colour from the photo and match it to the closest Pantone colour. If you can’t remember what a colour looks like you now have the ability to have a portable colour library. This is invaluable and for $9.99 available at the App Store it is a small price to pay.

Finding colour inspiration as a Special Event Planner of any type can be hard, so knowing where to go to check out colour schemes and ideas can be very helpful. There are many colour websites out there now but none which are quite as comprehensive as Colour Lovers, which is a creative community website where people come to share their ideas, trends, palettes and articles on all things colour.

There are dedicated channels on different subjects including a great channel on Weddings, forums for you to be a part of and share your views in such as I Hue the Wedding Forum, colour palette software - COPASO to help you create the perfect colour scheme and many other areas for you to explore.

We love this site and think it is the perfect place for aspiring wedding planners, stylists and designers to share their thoughts and be inspired in the great world of colour.

 

Storyboard ProStoryboard Pro

 

In event design we talk alot about the art of storyboarding and how to use it to communicate your ideas and event vision to your client. This sends some people into a panic as they find the idea of having to draw anything more than a little scary. So we decided to see if any of the animation software used by designers in general could work for event designers.

We discovered that Toon Boom Animation have actually got a product called Storyboard Pro that can be used by wedding and event planners to help them design their events. This product helps you to take your ideas and turn them into a visual story that eventually becomes the full production. So for those of you who shrink from the idea of drawing anything other than a stick man this could be the ideal solution. It shows you how to design your storyboard using panels and scenes and also allows for a full dialogue section within each scene which is particularly useful feature when planning a large event. You can use the fields to take notes about the events that will take place throughout the course of the day. You can use another field to describe the actions that must be taken in response to these events. For example, if you are a technician working on the lighting and effects of a concert, you can use Storyboard Pro to block out the timing for various lighting scenarios needed to follow the songs of the show. You can import your own images or even use the stock images provided in the image library that comes within the software.
